You can pry my steak from my cold dead hands...

I was born in the Midwest. Like most of Midwesterners, I enjoy a good steak. I can handle the gasoline shortage. I can even tolerate gas rationing. What I can't tolerate is steak rationing. The London Gaurdian is reporting that I need to cut my steak habiot down to 4 a week. Being from Chicago, I make ice cream sandwiches with 2 sirloins and a scoop of vanilla. The only reason I use vanilla is because as often as I go out to get ice cream, I have never once seen "cow" flavored Ben and Jerry's. This, my friends, has shaken me up worse the the financial crisis.

The report is full of advice on how I should live. It says items with low nutritional value should be reduced. Beer would be on this list- but that's a rant for another day. It also advises that we should walk to the grocery store. With a family of 6, that presents serious problems.

This again demonstrates how liberals choose to force their views on others. It's not bad enough that the media tries to tell me how to vote- now the left is trying to tell me how to eat. There are sacrifices that can and should be made- this is not one of them. I urge you all to go out and feast on cow flesh tonight. If a cow's not handy- pig will do. I have a tase for ribs, anyway...

My congressman, Lynn Westmorland released the following statement in regards to the bailout.

“As the financial crisis has unfolded over the past year, we’ve slowly watched the dominos drop one after another and we’ve seen one bailout after another,” Westmoreland said. “Each time we were told: ‘This bailout is going to fix the problem.’ We’ve already spent hundreds of billions of dollars that our government does not have and yet the problems continue to deepen. I’ve read all the documents and listened to the experts and no one can say – not even with nearly $1 trillion on the line – that this will work.

“Undoubtedly, this is one of the toughest votes that I’ve taken in Congress. When faced with a tough decision, I rely on my principles – that smaller government is better and that markets work better bureaucratic decisions. While this bailout may work in the short term, I’m concerned greatly about the long-term consequences. When government willingly steps in to rescue people from risky behavior, government creates an incentive for future risky behavior. When businesses accept greater regulation in order to receive a bailout, we enlarge government, distort markets and render capitalism less efficient.

“I do believe that our nation faces great financial challenges right now, and I believe that Congress should act. But the House should not appropriate up to $700 billion for a bill that didn’t exist until a few days ago and that never went through one committee hearing. This legislation costs way too much to pass through Congress with so little scrutiny. If the process is broken, the product is flawed. Combined with war costs, other bailouts and the stimulus packages, we can’t afford to be wrong with a price tag this high. “I have supported an alternative plan that would lower taxes and regulations to create an incentive for private money, foreign and domestic, to flow back into the credit markets. Unfortunately, alternative versions were shut out of this closed process.”

Congressman Westmorland made a vary important statement- "alternative versions were shut out of this closed process". In other words, the house GOP was shut out of the process. Aside from John McCain, no one saw this backlash coming. McCain rightly predicted that Pelosi and Reid needed to get the GOP members of the house onboard this legislation in order for it to pass. What Pelosi and Reid didn't seen to understand is people generally want to have a voice in the process. This allows people to feel as though they are onboard. This clearly did not happen.

It's a good thing the Democrats put aside partisan politics for the remainder of the economic crisis. In fact Speaker Pelosi was in a very bipartisan mood today. She even gave a rousing speech before the failed bailout bill to try and reach across the isle and motivate Republicans. Here's the text:

"When President Bush took office, he inherited President Clinton's surpluses — four years in a row, budget surpluses, on a trajectory of $5.6 trillion in surplus. And with his reckless economic policies within two years, he had turned that around ... and now eight years later the foundation of that fiscal irresponsibility, combined with an anything-goes economic policy, has taken us to where we are today. They claim to be free-market advocates when it's really an anything-goes mentality, no regulation, no supervision, no discipline. ..."

"... Democrats believe in a free market ... but in this case, in its unbridled form as encouraged, supported by the Republicans — some in the Republican Party, not all — it has created not jobs, not capital, it has created chaos."

Yeah, that was sure to butter 'em up. Nice job Speaker Pelosi...

BREAKING- BAILOUT BILL FAILS

The bailout was voted down today.

How did we get here?

After weeks of fighting for every drop of gasoline, I have come to the conclusion that something is wrong. Not with my beloved Chevy Silverado. Not with the oil companies or their equipment down in the gulf. Not even with the consumer, after all, we just want to get to work. The problem is with the calendar- you see, it's an election year.

I'm not going to go on a diatribe against Gov. Perdue. I am going to say that people need to calm down. USA Today reports that 30 percent of their survey group believes we are in a depression. While this may say much about the typical USA Today reader ( trust me, it's all been said before) it also speaks to the general mood of the American consumer. They are depressed and mislead.

I’ve been called an extremist.  I’ve been called a “right-wing Christian wacko”.  I have been cursed to hell by a priest.  I’ve been accused of wanting to see our church congregation “split in two.”  I have been talked about behind my back by people that I thought were my friends; called names that I can’t mention in polite company.

I’m an extremist because I believe in the “Sanctity of Life”.  I believe that human life needs to be protected from conception to natural death.  I’m a “right-wing Christian wacko” because I believe that we have a Creator and, like the Declaration of Independence states, we are endowed by that Creator with certain inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  I was cursed by the priest because I didn’t think that as Catholics, we could, in good conscience, vote for John Kerry as President because he believed in abortion-on-demand.  (The priest was going to vote for him.)  I was going to split our congregation in two because I was going to let all my devout, pro-life Catholic friends and parishioners know that they shouldn’t help the teens collect money for a research foundation that funds human embryonic stem cell research.  Women in the Women’s Club called me names because I told them the truth of what our Church teaches about in-vitro fertilization and the “left-over” human life that is in cold storage.  They didn’t like it when I described Partial Birth Abortion to them either.

It’s just what they do…

It’s in their vary nature. They can’t help it. Dogs scratch fleas, insects are drawn to a light, and Democrats raise your taxes. The latest tax grab is (surprise!) part of the latest version of the bailout bill. Per Nancy Pelosi- "If after five years ... the CBO decides that the American taxpayer has lost money in this, then there would be a fee on financial institutions." Just curious- how do those fees work with my 401k? Oh. I remember- the administration fees go up- meaning I get to pay for this for the rest of my life…

I agree with Senator McCain

I too agree with Senator McCain, though maybe not as much as Senator Obama seemingly does.  Obama voiced his agreement with Senator McCain a startlingly high nine times. I’ve been watching presidential debates since 1976- and never have I seen such naked pandering. Why should Obama provide details on his policies when can just walk up to the podium and say “me, too”?

In all fairness, there were differences; both in style and substance. Obama was smooth and polished- in a sleazy “Slick Willy” kind of way. He was also condescending in spots- voters will be reminded of his smirk in countless ads over the next few months. He also, as has been typical of the campaign cycle, offered up little or no detail.

McCain, by contrast, was genuine and sincere. He oozed leadership and experience. He was confident and pointed out Obama’s Naiveté on foreign policy. McCain frequently hammered home the point on Obama’s offer to sit down and negotiate with anyone. Obama’s response- he lied. It was one of a number of lies:

• Obama stated that Dr. Henry Kissinger supported his stance on negotiations. McCain countered, correctly, that Dr. Kissinger is not in favor of anyone President sitting down with Akmadinajad- especially without preconditions. Dr. Kissinger has issued this statement. “Senator McCain is right. I would not recommend the next President of the United States engage in talks with Iran at the Presidential level. My views on this issue are entirely compatible with the views of my friend Senator John McCain.”
• Obama lied about voting for tax increases for people making $42,000 dollars a year- as validated by factcheck.org. He did vote for such an increase.
• Obama denied that Adm. Mullen called a timetable for withdrawal dangerous, when in fact Mullen called a timetable very dangerous.
• Obama repeated his stump speech statement that 95% of all Americans will see a tax cut. Fact check again verified that Obama’s own numbers only project 81%. This number does not include the drop in actual spending power that is the result of Obama’s bizarre insistence on raising taxes on all business.
• Obama clearly did not understand the McCain Health care plan. He stated employers would be taxed on the value of health benefits provided to workers. Employers won’t, but the workers would. McCain also would grant workers up to a $5,000 tax credit per family to cover health insurance- this more than compensates for the taxes- the worker actually comes out ahead.

Again, Sen. Obama is showing a propensity for playing hard and fast with the truth, all for the ever important goal of being elected president.  This again points out the “me first” attitude that is so prevalent amongst modern liberals. It’s just one more reason to vote for John McCain.

How to bail out the goverment...

As early as the 20th, Yahoo news was reporting that Republicans had warned the Democrats not to add superflous spending to the bailout bill. Their own Presidential candidate warned them not to add extra spending measures. Natuarally, the Democrats added the following provision- the legislation allots future "profits" to be given to nonprofits organizations like ACORN, National Council of La Raza and potentially the National Urban League. Nothing partisan about that...

ACORN- Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. This organization is currently being investigated for voter fraud. Yes, ostesibly they are an organization that is supposed to help people buy cheap housing. In reality, they are just another wing of the radical left, alledgedly registering countless illeagal aliens as Democrats. Oh- they also appearntly employ a great many community organizers...

La Raza- Its stated focus is on reducing poverty and discrimination, and improving opportunities for Hispanics. They also sponsor Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts that favor Democrats. They have been accused of being suppoters of "Reconquista", but have publically renounced the movement.

National Urban League- The National Urban League also sponsors Democrat GOTV efforts.

I've got a novel Idea. Some analysts believe that the tresure department could swing a TRILLION DOLLAR PROFIT from the bailout. Why don't we use that to pay of the debt. Put that in the legislation. Legislators have an oppurtunity here. An opurtunity not to just stave off an election year recession, but to pay of must of the National Debt. As Republicans, we need to lead on this issue. McCain will say whatever he has to too get elected

So apparently John McCain is backing out of Friday’s presidential debate, and suspending his campaign to return to Washington and help save America’s failing economy. Interesting! The part that strikes me as odd is that just a few months ago McCain said America’s economy was just fine. Surely the need for a proposed $700 Billion dollar Wall Street bailout wasn’t created in the two months between McCain’s statements. Smells like politics! Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin in a CBS interview with Katie Couric said as the plan stands now she and McCain do not support it. When Palin was asked whether or not she and McCain support a moratorium on home foreclosures she answered they are undecided. Well of course they are but where will they stand after November?
